Monica was recently called to the Bar of British Columbia after completing her articles at another family law firm in Nanaimo in 2017. She is thrilled to be on the Duncan Allen team and has an unbridled love and passion for the law. She has a thorough understanding of the ways in which the law affects her clients’ daily lives and strives to assist them in navigating the complexities of the legal system as it applies to family law.
Monica was raised in Nanaimo and has lived here for most of her life. She chose to complete her undergraduate degree in her hometown, majoring in Criminology (with distinction) at Vancouver Island University. After graduating from VIU she was employed in the public service with the Government of Canada as a Citizen Services Officer, and soon after made the decision to pursue her law degree at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Following her first year of law school, Monica was employed as a law student by the Public Prosecution Service of Canada and Department of Justice. She also completed a clinical term for Dalhousie Legal Aid where she worked with clients on family matters and had a brief exposure to criminal law files. Monica couldn’t wait to return to Vancouver Island to begin her career as a lawyer, and has since developed a compassionate, client-focused approach to family law and, as a result, a deeper understanding of the issues surrounding families in her community.
In her free time, Monica enjoys reading, travelling and exploring the Vancouver Island with her family.
