Joey was raised on Vancouver Island and completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Victoria before leaving the island to attend law school at the University of British Columbia. After graduating from UBC Law in 2012, Joey began her career in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta. There she was offered a position at a small multiservice firm where she focused primarily on family law matters but also obtained valuable experience in real estate, wills, estates, and civil matters. During that time Joey developed an interest in the ways that a family file could be resolved without having to go to court. She has since honed her skills in negotiation and out-of-court dispute resolution and narrowed her practice to primarily family law, making her a perfect addition to the Duncan Allen team.
Joey’s goal is always to reach an agreement that protects her client’s interest but also allows for a working relationship between the parties moving forward, especially where children are involved. She doesn’t hesitate to go to court when necessary and has experience litigating in Provincial Court (B.C. and AB), Court of Queen’s Bench (AB), and Supreme Court (BC). Joey is the treasurer and secretary of the Nanaimo City Bar Association. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family, stand-up paddleboarding, and reading.
